Bill Cohn had just finished doing bypass surgery, and I'd been photographing him. We'd been hanging out for a while afterward, had lunch, and he was showing off his magic tricks, making quarters disappear and dollar bills float in the air. Then he said he was about to teach cardiac surgery to students at Harvard Medical School and asked if I wanted to join.

I took a seat along with all of the medical students. I really liked being in med school. I made this photo with a manual camera and the natural light in the room. I love this photo.

Bill liked it enough to order one as a gift for his parents. As a side note, Bill and I both went to Oberlin College, though he's a few years older than me. He played guitar in a punk band then, and he's in a band now. Heart surgeon, magician, musician, Bill is a true renaissance man.
