It was early in my career shooting portraits when I made this photo. I stood on a small stone wall so I could get high enough to shoot down on my subject and use the street as my background so there were no signs, power lines, cars or other distractions. It was a cloudy day in Seattle. I didn't use flash or any fancing equipment. There's
something about the simplicity of this photo the works, it's in the eyes, hair,
coat, and gravitas of this 10-year-old's expression. I like how simple it is and
how good it looks. It's hard to get things to come together like this. A lot of
it is luck. |
